I recently read Sue Grafton's novel T is for Trespass. I've followed this whole "alphabet" series of mysteries, but this latest takes as its subject an elder neighbor of the main character who takes a fall with the sad consequences we all worry about. The author tells this story through the eyes of a "helper" whose real intent is to exploit the man and a neighbor who's not sure how involved she should/can get. Grafton also paints some thought-provoking pictures of aging services providers. Worth a look...I'll be interested what you think. RP

Have you heard about the proposal in Greenburgh, Westchester County to allow retirees to work part time for the town in order to "work off" part of their property taxes (at $7/hour)? It's an interesting idea to capitalize on experience and prevent some people from being driven from their homes by taxes. Do you think it's a fair exchange? I'm trying to decide.
