Caregiver Support Group

Grief and Bereavement services and Groups
The Community Hospice has developed expertise in helping family and friends transition from the disorienting pain of grief to a healthy reinvestment in their lives. All Hospice grief and bereavement programs and services are free and available to everyone, regardless of whether the person who died was a Hospice patient.
If you’re interested in attending a free bereavement session with others who may be facing a similar loss, please refer to the latest schedule online. Groups are available at a variety of times throughout the region.

Ellis Hospital's stroke center is nationally recognized by the American Stroke Association. Stroke Survivors group the second Thursday of the month from 2-3:30 p.m. at Ellis Hospital, 110 Nott Street, Schenectady, New York in Dining rooms 1&2. Transitions Support Group
Group is appropriate for those seniors who are coping with a recent loss, death or significant life change. The purpose of the group will be to help group members develop the skills to cope in a supportive environment. Meetings will be the fourth Wednesday of every month 1:30-3 p.m. at the William K. Sanford Town Library, 629 Albany-Shaker Road, Loudonville, New York.

For women who have been diagnosed with mental health problems. Family Caregiver Telephone Groups
Senior Services of Albany Brings Support into Homes of Family Caregivers: Innovative Telephone Groups offer support for those who have their hands full helping an elderly relative with errands, housework or personal care. Family caregivers can learn helpful strategies and talk with others who are also caring for an elder. New weekly evening groups are beginning now. No travel or special equipment necessary. This groundbreaking program enables individuals to access information and support from others in similar situations and a professional social worker, all from the comfort of their own home.
Meetings are held evenings from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Choice of Tuesday (with a dementia-specific focus) or Wednesday.
